Virginia | Self feeding headgates work well if on concrete but not on dirt unless it doesn't get muddy. And you still have the manure to deal with. Have you considered portable feeders on wheels? Ours are 24' long and about 36" wide. These work well for 4 weights on up through mature cattle. We also use a Gehl 7190 feeder wagon and portable wooden bunks. This also works well to feed on sod especially when the ground is frozen. Another option we have used are flat bed wagons with a 6 " side. Only problem here is the wagon may be too wide for cattle to reach the middle. Feeder wagon and fence line bunks would be the best choice. You can get by without bunks with a concrete apron and a fence along the side of the apron. You could use your loader and just dump across the fence but would have more waste. What ever you do you don't want the possibility of the cattle getting on the bag and ripping holes in it. Good luck! Thanks for all your info this past spring on strip tilling. Bernie | |
