Saronville NE
IDK it depends on what your doing I have a neighbor here that runs 90 hd of cows on 60 a of irr grass and its prime 200 bu plus ground. It pencils pretty well if you figure it out. 200bu corn at $5 is $1000 an acre so $60k but figure 90 calves 500 at $1.50 is $750 is $67500 and you dont have all the highcost inputs into the grass like the corn, but still have some fertilizer and irr cost and your labor of moving them every week or 2 to the next paddock. But you save all the semi hauls to the sandhills grass like people do here at $3.50 a mile and 200 miles twice a yr saves him another $3500 in trucking a yr plus all the fuel saved from not having to drive and watch all summer, this way they are a 1/2 mile away. Plus no seed cost every yr no chemical bill, not all the fuel and mcahinery expense. I think it pencils but havent been brave nuff to try it yet, but may in the future. He has done this for yrs since early 80s anyways and its workin for him. It just depends on what you want to do and how you want to earn your money.
