I'm 27 and run about 840 acres a few head of cows and steers and run mostly older equipment, but I work off farm too. I am on the above average acreage size for here too, there are a lot of people running 300 acres, and milking 60 cows here too with there newest tractor being 30 yeas old. They seem to be doing ok, but I am going to assume that most of their debt is paid off by now too.


I think it is just nuts that I am able to net as much money or even more in some cases with a Rosholt sandy loam soil that gives me anywhere from 30-230 bushel corn that has a top soil 8-10" deep as a guy in IL or IA with Tama silt loam that is a dozen feet deep or more where they almost always get 230. (No offense to those in that area either)
