| Just checked the Dyersville report. They are a solid auction nearby that we use to base prices from.
The last report shows good to excellent quality hay in large squares at $120-157/ton. I'd say at $80/ton your hay is a good buy.
I often find that a guy only has so many $$$ in his hand to buy hay. He feels better to buy more volume, instead of better quality. Maybe his cows are different, but mine eat much less per day of high quality hay than poor quality hay. I never figured it out, but the cost per day is probably the same or less with better quality hay. | |
