Gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside to see a topic started about the two most important things when it comes to grain marketing and not the usual "Where is the futures market headed?" posts...
:)
Ain't it the truth. We are a forage producer but I'm a newcomer to wheat. Every year we used to have ~1500 acres of dry hay stored outside and we were sitting ducks for buyers. A few years ago I got tired of being a bid taker and decided to build barns. Now have storage for ~2500 tons of hay I figure each $50,000 barn pays for itself n 2.5 years.
Now I'm planting 75 acres worth of wheat test plots this fall. I've been researching the wheat thing for ~ a year and it seems to me like this game is the same as the hay game except it has a futures market. There is just too much money left on the table not to have bins IMO. The worst part is we had 3 Harvestores and sold them all. |
