Mascoutah, Illinois | Rod, as I stated before we have a dividing line between the northern half of the grain belt and the southern half. Areas in Iowa are the exception where they had 50 plus inches this growing season. WE ALL KNOW THE NORTHERN HALF IS HEAVEN. WHAT PEOPLE WILL NOT COME TO ACCEPT IS, THE SOUTHERN HALF ISN'T. We are on average 700 GDU's above normal for the growing season in the southern half of the grain belt. If you do the math, is an increase of six a day over average. The growing season even includes the cold snap the second week of May when frost hit some areas. Where the crop averages out is up for debate. I am leaning towards 162.56 and lower. If you drove the northern half of the grain belt, you would believe a record yield is coming. If you drive the southern half of the grain belt, you would be looking at a number nowhere near a record. The dividing line has seemed to be Interstate 80 and sometimes Interstate 70 all year. | |
