Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Be aware that your maps under this arrangement will not be perfect. They will be correct most of the time which should be acceptable.
The reason they will not be perfect is that the Insight will be assuming that the entire sprayer is either ON or OFF. In those situations where you may have some booms ON and some booms OFF (point rows, finishing odd rows etc.), the logging and map will be assuming the entire sprayer is ON and behave accordingly. By tapping on to the center valve you would not get any logging or mapping if you were not using the center section. This is generally acceptable.
If you would progress to the Direct Command modules, then the Insight can perform AutoSwath control (with some rewiring) and correctly handle the logging/mapping since it "knows" which booms are ON at any given time.
One slight downside to the DC arrangement on your sprayer is that the Deere Boom switches need to be rewired to become inputs to the AIM module of the Ag Leader system. The Ag Leader liguid Module then connects to the places where the Deere switches used to go. This is documentation that you apparently have. You also need to use an Ag Leader Master switch with this setup.
I have not personally done one of these but I am told that it works. In this case the Deere system still controls the spray rate but the DC system handles the AutoBoom feature and peforms the logging/mapping functions.
One downside to this arrangement is that since you rearrange the wiring, you would not be able to spray without the Insight display or modules. This was the situation for one of our indirect customers. During planting the Insight was in the planting tractor and not available for the sprayer. During that time he wanted to operate the sprayer in the original fashion. This might mean "unwiring" to get back to the original setup and then "rewiring" later to use the Insight when it was available. This would be unacceptable.
To work around this problem, I made a jumper connector. The operator unplugs the switch input plug to the AIM module and also unplugs the Boom Out connector from the liquid module. This jumper connects those leads together. This restores the original function of the Deere switches and the sprayer should perform exactly like it did from the factory. With this arrangement, the Ag Leader modules are not involved at all. Once the Insight display is again available, the jumper can be removed and the Insight DC system will be involved. |
