The red band looks like an ankle bracelet. They come in different colors, are plastic and have locking teeth that hold them together. To remove, we use a screw driver or butter knife between the teeth. "Here" red means treated (dry/lactating/fresh). Here, once the cows are tested "clean" (snap test), the band is removed and they are put in their proper pen. For us: Green is for calf milk. Blue for oxytocin (sp). Yellow for 3 "teater". Our red banded cows are not supposed to be in the milking string pens. They are in a seperate treated lactating pen or a dry cow pen. Each farm does it different. Bill |
