Callao Missouri | I have a dt466 in a silage truck that has a knock. I bought it that way worth the money and have a good 466 ready to go for it already.
The problem is I cannot find the source of the knock in the current engine. I was expecting spun rod bearing. It runs fine, 50-60 psi oil pressure not a loud knock but noticeable to someone who observes things. I pulled the pan, everything on the rotating group looks fine. No heat damage, all rods are snug fitting but can move slightly side to side with a screw driver. Mains look the same. Oil pan was spotless inside, no debris or anything. Engine oil was not nasty but clearly had been running.
No pieces of piston pin bushings found. I checked the valve clearance thinking maybe a loose fitting rocker arm or something. All right on speck of 0.24
I put pan back on, oil in, and still have a slight knock. I don't think its coming from the air compressor, sounds more forward than the clutch. Balancer is tight, fan isn't hitting the shroud. I'm out of ideas without pulling the pan and taking every rod loose to inspect. But I have never seen a spun rod bearing that didn't immediately discolor the rod from heat.
Any other ideas? Thanks | |
