SW Ohio | My vote is no. I had them on a 6 row doing lots of no-till and in places they were not enough so i added back the side arm springs and ran both. Biggest problem was they were an absolute pain to change setting or remove and they had a very small amount of travel before they were too heavy or too light. This was all solved when I went with air bags (used that frame mounted plate shown in your pic to attach them to). Now in tilled ground they (heavy springs) were not needed at all. The thing with down pressure is too little and you get shallow seed and erratic depth, too much and you might compact the seed zone(not common) but you do wear out the rest of the planter prematurely. | |
