Subject: RE: Conventional soybeans

We have raised non-gmo beans for the last 4-5 years. Yields have been as good or better than our similar maturity group gmo beans. Last year was the first yr we had a weed issue, mainly due to dry weather. We mostly raise them in conventional till environment & spray twice using a residual in the mix both times. Didn't get enough rain last year to activate the residual. Weeds were scattered so didn't cause a yield issue but hate to add to the weed seed bank. Chemical cost isn't much more than our gmo chemical program and the premium is a nice benefit.

In addition to the non-gmos we also raised plentish & enlist beans.,With plentish can also add roundup to your chemical program. Last year we no-tiiled them into rye then burnt the rye off using roundup & a residual. The dead rye acted likea blanket & didn't have to spray any post chemicals. Doubt if we get that lucky again. With all our beans we spray a fungicide / insecticide application. Side by sides have shown to us a definite yield advantage over spraying just a fungicide or insecticide
