Sioux County, NWIA | Not crimping (conditioning) may get you a faster dry down that first day, but after the first dark cycle the stomata of the leaves close and stay closed for good. That greatly slows the dry down. Conditioning allows dry down to continue relatively rapidly in spite of the closed stomata.
I’ve seen what happens when alfalfa is cut for dry hay and not conditioned. It will remain at the 20-30% moisture for half of forever. | |
