You have to let the hay get dried out, stems and all, then let the humidity toughen the hay up enough to keep the leaves on. BUT, it can also get too wet with dew. I have had hay be dry and losing leaves then be too wet within an hour. Sometimes if the hay has dried out and we catch a cloudy, humid day, we could bale all day. Sometimes it stays so dry all night it doesn't toughen up enough. |
