Central Western VA Mountains | I keep toying with the thought of planting a field of roundup ready alfalfa and I know nothing about alfalfa…
Is it reasonably possible to make dry, mold free square bales of quality alfalfa hay?
I have read that if to dry, the leaves fall off. Bale in the evening or night with the dew to inject moisture to hold the leaves. Anytime i bale grass hay with the dew, the humidity goes off the charts. I should think the same with alfalfa?
Sooooo - if is realistically possible to make small square bales (or round bales) of alfalfa that is dry enough not to mold, moist enough enough to retain the leaves/forage quality and not burn down my barn.
All of our hay is sold, so quality is important.
Any sage advice is much appreciated! |
