NS Canada | Can only speak of beef cows, but I have years of weaning weights to prove cows in the 5> + yr range have a consistent trend of higher weaning weights and higher WDA. You can watch the weights grow yearly and then plateau in that 5>9 range, which has to correlate to milk production. For example:
2 yr - 2.25 lb/day
3 yr - 2.48 lb/day
4 yr - 2.77 lb/ day
5 yr - 3.02 lb/day
Thats the difference between a 550lb calf to a 715 lb calf at weaning. | |
