NW Illinois Stephenson county | Decades ago there were two dairy herds with high milk production averages in our county. One herd did it with older cows (they were always selling large groups of bred heifers). The other herd had a lot younger herd (in the low 3s age range). So I ask who had the better cows? Who was the better dairyman? Which herd was more profitable? Would they have been able to switch herds and get the same results? Which herd would you rather buy replacements? I realize this is a general question with no more details. Just an observation I have pondered on this over the years, and I would be interested in others thoughts.
