I was finally able to get DSL at the main farm. It is about at the limit from the CO. I have two dsl modems and want to set up one modem to the computer in the house and the other to the computer in the barn. Phone line runs to the house first and then to the barn. I was able to get a good connection in the house and everything is working there. But the signal to the barn seems to be weak. I can get a connection for a few minutes and then it loses it. It then tries to sync up with the network again. Sometimes it connects, but most of the time it does not and I have to power down the modem. I have the heavier (14 gauge?) two strand copper telephone cable running from the house NID (Network Interface Device) to the barn (about 120') and into a NID. From there it goes into the standard 4 wire telephone cable (I think it is 22 gauge) and runs another 100' to the office. Any suggestions on improving the signal or other alternatives? |
