Subject: Water Pump Seepage

Been reading about anaerobic flange sealant being used on water pumps to prevent the paper gasket from leaking due to imperfections in the sealing surface. One manufacturer claims it will help seal the gasket another says not to use gasket at all as it needs to have metal to metal contact to cure. I need to take it back apart to address the seep and am looking for thoughts on what to use to stop the seep. The surfaces are flat and the pump was supplied with a thin paper gasket.
