| Friend of mine has lung issues and recently had a coughing fit and his chest really hurt. His wife is a RN and made him go to his family doctor. The Doctor knowing his family history (Mother and Father both have heart issues) had him do a heart scan. You know the $49 scan at the hospital and the score was pretty bad.
As a result, the Dr orders some more tests and instantly puts him on a statin. I quizzed him what his bad cholesterol was, so he checked his last 4 checkups with bloodwork through his online portal. His worst LDL test out of the last 4 years was 63 with the average being in the low 40s.
The Dr apparently prescribed without checking blood work, the pills made his body hurt and they got thrown in the trash. My firsthand knowledge of statins is they want the LDL below 70 with a heart condition.
I guess the kneejerk reaction is just blindly throw pills at everything to get paid.
