| Outdoor bedding pack. We’ve got a very small herd, 15 head of heifers and cows. Angus and Herefords. WI so it gets below zero for days at a time. Although they have an open shelter they prefer outside as long as the bedding is deep and dry-I’ve been bedding it every 5-7 days and they stay happy. What is the best way to manage it the rest of the year? Clean it up and start over in the fall? Keep it maintained with fresh bedding throughout the year even though they will be on pasture 90% of the time? What exactly is the science behind bedding packs? Am I correct to think the breakdown in the pile provides some heat to them? Like I said, just ignorant about it in general and only info I’ve found is on bedding pack barns. | |
