Cedar Rapids, Iowa | Sometimes there is an obscure bug in a driver that was later discovered and fixed. Maybe only 1% of the people using that device ever encountered that bug, but the developers eventually figured it out and resolved it with an updated driver. Now lets say your computer starts doing something wonky. Instead of trying to figure out why, the easiest thing to start with is update the drivers. That way all those odd bugs that have been found will be patched. After that, if you still have the issue, then we can start digging deeper into what is going on. It's just the easiest thing to do for the first step of troubleshooting an issue.
Also, sometimes a windows update can add a new feature that will only work if you also update the driver for the device. This might be improved performance, or some new setting.
If you have a computer that is working perfectly, is not on the Internet, and doesn't need to do anything new - then you can leave the drivers alone. | |
