Subject: Courthouse Rock and Jail Rock

The area is Courthouse Rock and the Jail. Western Nebraska, close to the North Platte River.
These two rocks were a major landmark along the Oregon Trail. Pretty much that they were leaving the prairie and heading into the mountains.

About 10-12 miles to the west is Chimney Rock. It’s upside down funnel shape is more well know.

I don’t know if this is a state park or what. But there is a maintained gravel road leading to the parking area. No problem for two wheel drive cars.
No bathrooms, shelter house, nothing.
You can walk up to both rocks, and if you want climb them. In 2012 I climbed up quite a ways on Courthouse, now wish I had keep going.

Chimney Rock has a visitors center, now closed. Sign says ‘For Remodeling’,
could be the CV-19 deal also.
You cannot get near Chimney Rock.
Over 3/4 of a mile from the visitors center.
A little closer from a gravel road to the north.
Well over a mile from highway 26 & 92 to the north.

#2- Courthouse Rock is about four or five miles south of Bridgeport NE, good paved road.

Lower portion of picture - That ‘Road’ is not a vehicle road, but a well worn path from those four wheelers.
Probably why there is now a cable fence to keep them out.
