SE Iowa | I would advise against going big for one rig. I know many people who have a completely outfitted $20k drone (DJI Matrice 210 RTK with Flir XT2 thermal sensor and X7 sensor), and it’s a burden to get going every time.
I would highly suggest sticking with the $800-1500 drone (Mavic 2 Pro or Phantom 4 Pro) and plan on expensing software. The software is where the money starts paying off. You can either purchase a good computer and a license of Pix4D for $5k (but I think they have cheaper options now), or get a license to a cloud processing service (DroneDeploy and others). Being able to generate accurate 2D maps and 3D models will be the best way to draw an ROI.
PS, I do work for DroneDeploy, I hope this didn’t come over as an advertisement. Take a look at some drone software (do your due diligence because there are a lot of cool software products) , at least use some of the free flight apps to automate image capture. | |
