| My Visa card missed a mailed check. Raised the interest rate to the roof, shortened the float period, moved the payment due date to the day each month that I write checks (and I had negotiated the date to fit my habits). I called and fussed, sent them a check by certified mail return receipt, then because they lowered the interest rate when I threatened to shred the card, I had a couple bucks over. I used those up and only carry the card if all else fails. Last fall, a statement arrived showing a balance. They had found the three year old check and applied to an account with no activity. I predict your lost check will appear some day. That's why I like my local bank's debit card, no checks to get lost. Means I have to be sure the checking account can afford its use, but that's a good practice anyway. They did send me a check for the full overpayment, in time. But that check showing up could have upset my checking account.
