Grand Rapids, MI | Yes, I sell crop insurance. We just added it this year as a service our consulting group offers. We thought it was a good fit, since we are consulting many producers on risk management, and understand this stuff pretty well.
I have an agreement with an agency and am not at liberty to give an exact amount. Truly it varies anyway depending on the type of policy, volume of business written, how much work the agent does vs. the agency vs. the crop insurance company, etc.
SweetPete is right though, good agents earn their keep, but unfortunately some do not. Suffice it to say that a good agent who works hard can make a good living. It is also fair to say that commissions are high enough that if you have a farm of more than a couple hundred acres you should be getting very good service, or else should be looking for another agent. | |
