Most common trap guns are either pump or break barrel, and use a 28-30", full choke. 7 1/2 or 8 shot shells, commonly refered to as "target loads". Be careful buying targets till you find a brand that you like. I use only white flyers as all the generics and cheaper brands (which I still have some of) can/will break in the thrower.

There are a lot of games that can be played in trap. You might visit a local trap club if you can and learn these games first hand. In some of the......uh..........boyz club type trap clubs, the rules might be a little lax for safety and usage, but at all competition clubs, there are rules that have to be known and obeyed strictly.

If you choose to reload your own, in general, it really is more about getting the right load for you, or the right load for your gun. Saving money in reloading will depend very highly on your ability to shop sales. And even then, if any target load works for you, (which it usually does for most hobbyists) you can shop sales of crates of target loads and get those so cheap there's no way to save on reloading. But reloading is a super fun part of the hobby/sport.

Good luck with your found hobby/sport. You will enjoy many hours of fun and social activities. Just demand that safety be the top of the list at any outing you attend. (like you did'nt allready know that being a marine...d:-)
