Subject: It is all in your perspective.

Little River, TX
A neighbor has a windmill and a roof full of solar panels and a room full of fancy batteries.

Also has a 1500 gallon water tank and two 1,000 propane tanks.

Boy should have been a Mormon as he probably has enough dry beans to keep them going for at least a year.

Young Bill, not this one a different one, is on a rural water line. A few years ago he was without water for 3 days. Young bill put in a well and the good sized storage tank, that will gravity feed to the house and barn.

Guess what a year later he was without electricity for 3 days. This stirred Bills juices and he put in a windmill. Silly thing will spin up a storm but not generate much electricity with less than a 7 mph wind. When the winds get above 30 mph more bad news it shuts it's self off and turns it's head.
News phalash this is not West Texas where the wind blows up a storm for days and days. So wind power is not real practical for him. Then onto the roof with a bunch of solar panels. What to do with the electricity? The power company does not want it so they pay next to nothing.
Solution is a big bank of batteries.

Results is they can run everything in the house for months with out electricity, if need be, and they do not want air conditioning.

They have 2 gas cook stoves. One in the house and one on the back porch where the heat is not a problem in the summer time. Hot water is from 2 gas flash water heaters. The house has a wall between the house and the direct rays of the sun. There is great air circulation in the outer hall way.

I have no idea how much all that would cost today, but then the parts alone were in the neighborhood of $30,000.
