Subject: Battery lug terminal crimper tool followup (Pics)

Inquired about this tool in an earlier thread.

I was actually thinking about the long handled crimp tools made by Quick Cable like this one with rotating dies but since it won't be an every day use sort of tool here. I decided to take a chance on the hydraulic style instead. Figured I could buy 4 of these for the price of 1 set of the manual style handled versions.

Main goal was I plan on switching batteries over to group 31 stud types when I need to replace them and being able to make exact length customized cables myself instead of having to measure and run to town for a custom made cable. Plus if a cable develops an issue it won't be an issue on crimping on a new eyelet end or making a new one without the hassle or expense of ordering a high dollar OEM cable.

Came in the mail today in a very nice plastic case with 11 sets of hexagonal shaped dies for various sizes. Also ordered a package of 3/8" and 1/2" 2/0 terminal eyelets and some red and black 4ft sections of 1/2" and 3/4" 3:1 shrink tubing with glue in them that seals the connection once shrank.

Only thing left to get on hand is some 2/0 cable.

Also found this reference chart which I printed off and laminated for reference to die sizes in the kit.

I've not crimped a connection yet but it looks like this should make a very nice connection same as the cables I had made in town.

Any preference /advantages or disadvantages on using 2/0 battery cable wire vs 2/0 welding cable wire ?  The welding wire would remain a lot more flexible and easier to work with in some applications.
