Columbia City, Indiana | On the early end of my first harvest here in NE Indiana, and the farm has been continuous no-till for many years. Just wondering what some of the opinions are from the posters here as many in my area no-till only soybeans, (and work ground going to corn) which the guys who are also no-tilling corn will tell you is not true no-till. I've heard that when you switch to true no-till, there is a yield penalty about year 3-5 or so, but after that it evens out and true no-till corn will yield as well or better than conventional tillage. I'm thinking that since my grandpa already took this yield hit, (if it exists), I should stick to the no-till for a few years and see how it works. What do some of you guys think? There are only a couple of guys here who strip-till, and for now it's not feasible for me due to a lack of horsepower. (Farming with 4020's). | |
