Subject: PTO Shaft on JD 6215

Orange County NY
Had shaft on a bushhog snap between the tractor and the carrier bearing today. The male part of the shaft that goes on the tractor swung down and slammed the hitch and stopped. At least that is what the driver thinks it did. Probably went around several times before he killed the PTO.
The shaft coming out of the tractor doesn`t run straight now. Kinda wabbles and leaks a little oil around the seal. Seems to run quiet with no funny noises at a idle. How long is that shaft and could it be BENT? This tractor is a 540 only PTO so there is no snap ring to remove and pull the shaft like on the 540/1000 tractors. Do I have to take that back plate off that is all part of the drawbar hitch? Thats what it looks like to me. I have a bad feeling about this one. Thanks for any info you can offer.
