Yeah, that would be the real deal! My dad's cousin rigged up an overdrive of sorts in a late 70's Chevy 2wd with a 350 diesel. Stuffed an old 3 sp. brownie in behind the auto. Seems to me it would turn in damn near 30 mpg. Another neat rig I was around was a '79 Ford 150 4x4 that had a little perkins transplanted in. That would pull off some really good mileage but was 'way short of power!
