| Probably a lot has to do with weight of the big 4-stroke engines--always a v-8. The outboard until lately were all light 2-strokes. 2 strokes always put more power to the propeller no matter what they are rated--even with the new 4 stroke outboards. Outboards are great but aren't often used as primary ski boats because they don't track as well as inboards, skier wakes are actually pretty good.
