Yah, I've bought 3 point link pins and hitch pins that were easily machined. Even with my little tractor, I've turned them into pretzels which made them really hard to extract from holes.
I'm digging in Marks. It says 1018 has 0.15 to 0.20% C and a bit of Mn. In the low carbon family. McMaster-Carr catalog says yield 55K. Weaker than a grade 2 bolt.
