Subject: Marestail in Beans

I have about a 20 acre wet spot that I sprayed Friday with 26 oz Roundup and 3 oz Valor trying to kill Marestail without spraying clarity because I did not want to wait 14 days so I could plant it when i planted the rest. I know I am not going to get 100% control from the looks of things today. What are my options with the 1st and hopefully only shot of roundup.
Thanks.

I always had good luck with 1pt of generic roundup and 1 pt of 2,4-D and didn't ever wait more than about 4-5 days.

Hey Skyler, if you don't get a good kill on the marestail, hit it with a heavy dose of Gramoxone. It should burn it down. By the way, I sold my 1660 combine to a neighbor of yours in Limestone County. Ben Looney.

last year I did get rid of mine, used 64 oz rup and 3 oz valor. Was not going to plant until they were sure to die. Took about 18 days. (4 to 5 inches tall.)

I am assuming that you are going to plant beans, if so, Firstrate tank mixed with glyphosate is an option. Around here though if we miss them the first time, its tough to kill them with a second application.

since you used a solid rate of roundup/valor, monsanto and valent have a program called "start-clean and stay clean" and monsanto will replace 1/2 of your roundup if you have to make a secon in-season roundup application as i understand it! if the marestail was not up you are probably ok, however, if it is up i don't believe roundup will help nor will valor kill emerged weeds per my experience. best of luck. check with your valent and monsanto field reps. ganster is also a good option on small marestail. also i'm assuming you will plant beans.

I've sprayed 1 pt rr and 1 pt 2,4-D and only waited 4-5 days and never had a problem.

SWOH
your one pint of rr is the reason why there's rr tolerant marestail.

i wouldn't count on it. i've seen marestail stand a pint of 24d and 22 oz of roundup. burnt the snot out of it but it didn't die. saw it in 2 different fields in different years.

In my experience, 0.75 # of 2,4-D gives very good control of marestail if they haven't yet bolted. Once they start to bolt, better go up to at least 1.0 # -- and cross your fingers.

yep, and if you have a pint of RR with the low rate of 24D, thats where you get RR tolerant marestail. eventually.
