Subject: RE: 9600 water pump

Replaced the water pump in my 9600 2 weeks ago. I had found anti-freeze drop lets in the oil filter bleed drain on my last oil change. Local JD. mech. steer me to watch the water pump seal. While I was setting the sieve's , and installing the metal shields I noticed water trickling out of the blow by steel tube. Apparently the seal had deteriated over the winter and just by moving it around the farm it let go. OIL-WATER was filling the engine oil compartment ,lots of steam and oil. Drain and flushed the systems ,replaced the water pump( the water pump's shaft seal cut a groove inthe water
pump's gear shaft) and bearings. I like to think I got lucky and caught it in time. Seems to running ok while now doing the wheat. advise -- watch the coolant levels -- it going somwhere.
