Subject: Header attachment improvements

I've been working on a proposal to create a better standardization of header attachment between combines. (ASABE paper 05-5008)
I was just wondering if you all feel this is something that is worth pursuing.
We have the convenience of standards for tractor 3 point hitch, and semi 5th wheels, but nothing for combines.
Feederhouse frames on new combines are now between 69" to 74" wide, but still not the same.
Areas of standardization would be:
Transport pad position for setting them on trailers.
Feederhouse frame openings, ie height, width, and locking pin positions.
Driveshaft, size of 21 tooth splines, position and speeds.
Hydraulic interface, creating some consistency in flows, pressure, etc for reel drives, etc.
Electrical interface for reel speed sensors, auto height control etc.

Imagine how nice it would be if any combine could hook onto any appropriately sized competitive header without having to acquire or make adapters and change hydrualic fittings.
