Subject: RE: Lamberton Strip Tillage Days

Flandreau, SD

I thought it was too fast paced. I was running from one to the next.

SoilWarrior
Dawn
Bluejet
Hiniker
orthman
DMI/case
Twin Diamond
Redball

Might be missing a couple. I would bring the wifes hand spade too dig the slots up and see the tilled area.  My opinion is I want a totally tilled strip.  If you are on a knife system, I would go with a unit that the closing blade dig in the ground alittle.  In hard ground the blades that "float" will hold the dirt in but not work any ground.  So that just leaves a slot as wide as the knife, about 2 inches maybe to plant  into.  With a total worked strip you have a wider path to try and hit with the planter.  I think the orthman was setup to dig with the closing wheels.

I wish they would have put dry on with the Soilwarrior to see the mix of the fertilizer compared to the Dawn.  But I think I will get that chance in the next couple weeks.

I still do not like the Knife systems with my little experience in my area.  jmo

Are you afraid you were going to melt in the stuff coming for the clouds.  Us from SD don't remember what that was and stood  in the rain just to say we felt it.
