Subject: RE: Anybody else ready to quit RR beans?

Sometimes I think about going to RR beans. Had to pay $20/ unit for conventional or STS this year and they all are now patened as well so "legally" there is no soybean seed saving anymore.
I still like the STS beans. For less than $4 acre syncrony 1/2oz acre will knock out everything except waterhemp and half of the pigweeds. Problem is waterhemp is now the main problem weed. Last year when we were so dry the beans were barely past trifolate and the waterhemp was still growing. Hit them with an "accidental" 2X dose of syncrony 1 oz/acre. Zero bean burn and did set the waterhemp back for 2 weeks. Then we got rain from Dennis. By the time the waterhemp started growing again the beans were fully canopied and a good dose of Phoenix/Cobra took out the waterhemp. Just hate having to pay for a second dose of chemical. It is next to impossible not to do anymore no matter what system you use. The niehbor runs 3-4 trips with roundup counting the burndown trip just because of waterhemp.
Select takes care of the grass easy enough but it seems like it keeps going up in price instead of down. You would think if so many are using RR then the companies would lower the price to compete.
