Subject: Baler/stackwagon question for Scott or...

Leesburg, Ohio
... Rodney or anyone...
Saw your post below about bale skis vs. bale case extension. We use a NH575 with extension, hydro tension, and two sets of wedges in straw, and pick up with a Super 1048 Stackcuiser. The straw bales seem very puffy in the thickness dimension (the vertical dimension as they come out the chute) which causes the last pair of bales to go on the second table on the Stackcruiser to fall forward when the second table goes up...they hang over the front of the second table a bit too much because they're all a little too thick. We have this problem from time-to-time...just seems more often this year.

What should I adjust to keep the bales more square and uniform? I have the hydro tension on about 2.25, all four doors about 6 turns in, and both sets of wedges in. Would loosening the doors and more hydro tension do anything, or vice-versa? Maybe just slow down more? (Running in A2 on the 4250, could go to A1.)

Would bale skis help enough to be worthwhile? What do they actually do? Baler has baled maybe 200,000...neighbor had it and put around 150,000 thru it, and we have had it for three years and about 50,000. Has had knives, shims, and knotter maintenance every season since new.

Thanks for any advice...

Ken
