Earlier IH shanks had a stop piece on top of the bushing. Replacements from IH don't have that. The parts counter told me it was because that stop lead to broken shanks. So the newer shanks are supposed to not snap off from banging on that stop.
So far my 45 Fc hasn't broken any shanks in my use. It was only in the field 10 minutes this year.
