Subject: Re: field cultivator shank breakage?

Republic OH (NC OH)
we have been running either an ih 45 or ih 4500 field cultivators for many years.
the only time we broke any shanks was when they we wore down just above the
shovel. when i bought the 4500 the previous owner didn't run any shank savers
and they were worn. i have since replaced all of the assemblies from cih. i did
1 row for 3 years. it was much easier to just replace the whole unit. i did add the
shank savers. we haven't broken any shanks when they are in good shape.
