Even though cattle will reach down, I think you want the depth and height for cattle especially over the winter. Hogs and cattle seem to have different requirements. I have a different model Petersen and so far am very pleased with it. I did change the float to a different type (flat foam) from what they ship (round brass ball) to get it to fill faster. I like the concrete design. jmho.
