Tim, Are you using the basic editor, the quick reply box, or the HTML editor?

If you're using the HTML editor, the first tool listed on the toolbar is an eraser. That is supposed to remove HTML from your post. Not sure if you have to highlight the whole thing first, before using the eraser though. Might play with it and see if it solves your problem.
