You are correct. the antenna/cable connector is a standard TNC connector. and a 50 ohm cable like RG-58C/U is the cable used from the factory.
when assembling the TNC connector it is important the the pin be the correct length to as to not bottom out first. Also, I've seen some import connector center pins which were cone shaped rather then clyindrical and they sometimes caused damage to the antenna's connector. take along your old pieces to see that the new connector looks like it has the same same shape and length center pin, just in case your connector guy has some wierd look-alike that is slightly different than the original. The factory cables are overmolded with a strain relief and the overmolds hold on to the connector body which does give some considerable strength to the cable and connector joint and prevents the crimp ferrule from bending. the replacement crimp connectors have a small ferrule and they are pretty fragile without the overmold and can fail if they get any repeated bending stress. The clamp connectrors are slightly more reliable if assembled properly, but they are a lot harder to assemble than the crimp connectors.
