Not probably answering your question, but just a tidbit that some readers may want to try:

I got really sick of the "bars" taking up half of my screen. So I went to view and unlocked the tool bars, and went to customize. I changed the icons to small, selective text on right, and got rid of the icons I didn't use. I then dragged each toolbar onto one line. Starting with the File, Edit, View, Favorites. I then up the icon buttons over the rest of the tools and help words (really don't use these options anyway) then drag your address bar to the right of that. I have everything I need on one line, and much more screen to browse with. Try it for yourself.
