Dagmar, MT | Seeing some ACRE threads just wanted to give you all a heads up on what turned out to be a big-time misunderstanding here in Montana. The first county meeting was last year about this time. The FSA heads talked then 3 MSU professors took time off from bragging up camelina and organic farming to explain the program. A question about the 30% reduction on grain loans came up. Not one of them knew what this meant or if it also affected the LDP rates. We haven't had an LDP for years so most didn't worry about this. Come harvest time Durum prices tanked, all of a sudden the LDP was $1.56/bu. For the Acre guys the loan rate was actually reduced by 30%. So instead of a $4.54 loan rate it was about $3.18. Naturally they're all fired up and appealing, sueing, etc. It was a big crop so most non-acre guys made out like bandits on the LDP. It looks like corn and soybeans are a long way off from having an ldp so maybe this doesn't matter. Cory.
