Subject: Using GS2 2600 on 1770 Planter WARNING

North/Central Indiana
We had previously been running dual display on our planter and went to install our 2600 with one old display to plant with. When i connected the 2600 display it spiked our control box. Apparently the old display that we removed was set as the primary, and the one older display that we left in there was running an older version. The combination of the two erased the control box on the planter. I believe it was a Generation 1 Box, which is unreprogramable. So we got to purchase a 1600 dollar box plus 79 $ an hour labor for the John Deere tech to install the new box. Our dealership had installed all the other 2600 moniters in our area. And they updated their software prior to the install...We were just thinking that we thought we could save a some labor and install it ourselves....Apparently we were wrong.
So if you are going to be switching your 2600 around on older planters....MAKE SURE YOUR SOFTWARE IS UP TO DATE.....AND MAKE SURE THE IF YOUR GOING TO BE RUNNING DUAL DISPLAY THAT THE MONITER YOU ARE LEAVING IN THE TRACTOR IS SET TO PRIMARY BEFORE HOOKING THE 2600 UP. We learned the hard way....
Once we got running the display is nice...but we are very very disappointed that we can not utilize some very good options due to our planter not being new enough. If we were doing it over again....we would have to really think about buying this system....it seems to be doing a few things better then are GS1, but maybe not enough to compensate for the COST..... Hope this saves someone a few bucks.....
