I will explain the house a little it was built in 1918 big box style 2 stories plumbing and electricity was added later and is marginal. Only one small bath on the second floor all plaster walls very little insulation except for when they put on steel siding they added a little thin foil under the siding. Otherwise very sound structure just a well built old farmhouse. We checked on adding a bath on our main floor updating the bath on the 2nd floor and new cupboards in the kitchen. I was shocked on what it costs now days. The bid was $75,000 from a local kitchen and bath remodeling company just for those 3 rooms. That bid included removing the plaster insulation and wiring for those rooms and of course all the plumbing, cabinet’s wall covering, and flooring. Some time we still need to remove the plaster and insulate the rest of the house (6 more rooms), and shingle it so wondering if it is worth it to keep the old house as we looked at a house that was just built and the cost was $200,000 for the entire new house. Should a person remodel now days or just start over?
