perryton, tx | I just did a graft about 10 days ago with a similar situation to yours. This cow had gone a week since losing her own calf. One thing that was suggested to me was to let the calf nurse in the chute if necessary and then keep them in close quarters but separated overnight, that this would stimulate the cow to seek out the calf-I had the calf in a stall where the cow could see the calf and sure enough on the second morning the cow was right there at the stall door looking in and as soon as I kicked the calf out she went straight to the cow and started nursing. With that said this is an exceedingly gentle older cow who’s seen it all so I think that worked in my favor. | |
