We calve everything out on grass. Different world here but who cares if they are tagged, feedlots all want their own lot tags in them anyhow. Easy enough to sort pairs when the need arises. Cows don’t like to be bothered, give them some space. Pulling calves is pretty well a thing of the past, if a cow can’t calve on her own pass her along. i believe that we pulled less than 5 calves last year, out of 2000 cows. With Typical weather we have less than 4% calving loss, it seems we always have some cold weather mid April, some years it’s brutal, but we have a full crew when it’s cold/snowing to much to farm. I’d venture to bet that 1% of those cows never come full term. We Don’t use antibiotics, just don’t have issues with scours or infection.
